Randive Completes Class Approved Barge Repair in the Port of Tampa
At the end of October, Randive received a call from a very large marine transportation company based on the East Coast advising that they had sustained damage to one of the barges in heavy weather. Having recently observed our repair presentation at the Barge Day event they asked us if we could help. We immediately formulated a repair procedure and upon approval by the local attending class surveyor, a four-man dive/welding team was dispatched. The majority of the required equipment was loaded into our larger box truck and dispatched with a two-man team consisting of half of the diving crew. The remaining half of the crew was flown down to meet the equipment with close coordination between the vessel’s arrival. Upon the vessel’s arrival and approval from all parties, the repair was commenced early the next morning. The area was video documented in order to ascertain the severity of the damage. The repair procedure was finalized and upon approval by the attending Class, the welding repairs were put forward. Within an eight hour period, the entire repair was completed and approved by the attending class surveyor and attending Port Captain. The entire repair evolution from commencement of mobilization to the dive teams’ return was completed within a 72 hour period and completed within the allotted budget.
