SABINE PASS, TEXAS

Sabine Pass, Texas
In November of 2005, Randive was contacted by a prominent petroleum transportation company and advised that one of their barges had struck a submerged obstruction 50 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico off of Sabine Pass, Texas. Randive was requested to mobilize multiple dive teams and equipment as soon as possible in response to the casualty. Within 36 hours our crews were in transit to Port Arthur, Texas equipped with multiple digital video systems and an extensive amount and array of ancillary dive equipment in order to investigate and locate the obstruction. It was suspected that the barge had struck a submerged gas rig which had been severely damaged during hurricane Rita. While our dive teams were in transit, the next task was securing a vessel suitable to support diving operations. Due to the lack of available equipment caused by the hurricane, this proved to be a daunting task. However, combined with persistence and local contacts we were able to contract a vessel out of Galveston, Texas without any lost time. Once ready, our crews were expected to locate and fully document the rig and define the perimeters of the submerged oil.
Upon an initial survey it was determined for precision and safety purposes that
side
scan sonar and ROV equipment would be required. Within 48 hours the additional
equipment and personnel was on site and images of the gas rig and submerged oil
field started to be obtained. Upon completion of sonar data acquisition our dive
teams commenced video documentation of all items of interest to our client. In
total, all of the requested inspection and associated diving tasks were
completed over an 8 week period.
With Randive’s global contacts, the ability to perform under any conditions in remote locations and our vast experience in the maritime industry, we were able to perform to our clients’ exact specifications and expectations.
